Welcome to our nutrition resources page
This will be an evolving page that will constantly be updated with general nutritional information for kids and families alike.
healthyireland.ie published the 2016 updated food pyramid on their site which provides a great starting point.
Another foundation to good nutrition is eating the rainbow every day. Think about green leafy vegetables and brightly coloured fruit and vegetables.
Dr Rangan Chatterjee from the UK published the rainbow chart after using it with his family to encourage them to eat a variety of colourful vegetables. By eating different coloured vegetables and fruit insures we get enough essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre to help all our systems stay healthy. You can print out the chart from his site, put it on your fridge and turn it into a game by ticking off what colours the kids eat each day.
Here some ideas for those lunch boxes. The list is endless......
When thinking about breads pasta etc, think about using wholegrain or whole meal. Its an easy switch and can help manage blood sugar levels. And just because something new comes home in the lunch box, don't give up, it can take time for kids to try new things.
Don't forget to go back to the ideas on the back on the note sent home on the 17th Jan.
